The man, identified as Clay A. Duke, 56, walked into the Panama City board meeting and painting a red V in a circle on the wall, which is a symbol from the movie V for Vendetta. He then ordered everyone except some of the members of the board to leave the room. Ginger Littleton, a school board member who was allowed to leave, tried to distract Duke by coming up behind him and hitting him with her purse. She was thrown to the ground and he aimed at her but didn’t shoot.
According to Duke the school board had fired his wife, and despite pleas from members he eventually opened fire, but missed superintendent Bill Husfelt. A security guard arrived and shot Duke, who also fatally shot himself after he fell to the ground. No one else was injured.
