What started as a Port of Seattle blockade on Monday, a part of a broader effort to target West Coast ports, turned violent when police tried to remove makeshift barricade to open up traffic. According to sources police used flash grenades, batons, pepper spray and horses are being used to trample people. Multiple arrests have been made and at least a dozen people incarcerated.
The Occupy protests shut down 2 Portland terminals after Occupy supporters had planned two rallies at the Port of Seattle near the Spokane Street bridge on Harbor Island.
Protesters were blocking trucks from entering and leaving the port, and several protesters were seen lying across train tracks leading into the port.
Occupy Seattle protesters had started setting up wooden crates and aluminum in front of the entrance to Terminal 5 when police began attacking the occupiers.
Police violence is not unfamiliar to the Occupy Seattle Movement.
Recently, police used pepper spray to clear streets in Belltown and near Westlake Park as protesters marched in sympathy for Occupy Wall Street activists who had been evicted from a park in New York City. Among those pepper-sprayed Tuesday night were a 19-year-old pregnant woman and 84-year-old activist Dorli Rainey.
