Believe it or not, thousands of people are building their own solar panels. Why? Because they can save over $20,000 by making them at home and it’s really not that hard to do. Years ago you would have had to figure it out on your own, but now there are guides online that can take you step by step through every part of the process. You can make your first solar panel for less than it would cost just to get an estimate for installing these things at your house.
You don’t have to have ANY solar experience
A question I get asked a lot is “What if I have never done anything with solar power before?” That’s ok. In fact, it might even be easier for you because the guide I have found teaches you from the very beginning and shows you all of the tools and materials you will need.
Love to watch videos? These “How to” videos show you every part of the process of making solar panels so you don’t miss a thing. Having an actual video to watch makes it a lot easier too. Some things just can’t be taught in a book, and “seeing is understanding!”
Here is a sample video of the Green DIY Energy guide, which is the ONE I recommend. There are many others on the market, but this one is updated all the time for free, and offers high quality videos (which are being added all the time). In fact, there are 6 new videos that were just added to teach everything from making solar panels to making wind generators.
If you want to know how to make a solar panel than you are not only thinking “green” but you are thinking about cost savings as well. As you probably already know, buying a brand new solar panel can be very expensive.
How easy is it to build your own solar panel?
Well fortunately it can be as easy as following instructions. If you can make brownies you can make a solar panel…. or maybe even if you don’t know how to make brownies=). You can build your first fully operational solar panel in about 1 day and a half. Of course, you might be quicker than me and if you build several of these things you can probably turn them out faster as you go.

What will you need to Build a Solar Panel at Home?
For starters you will need to get some solar cells. Sound expensive? Well the cool thing about this project is you can get solar cells that are broken for dirt cheap, and you can EASILY get them to work again.
Then you will need some plywood, or some kind of wood surface to put your solar cells onto. This can be the cheapest stuff you can find, as long as it can hold it’s own weight it should be fine. Remember, we are doing this to save money so the cheaper the better here.
