Massive Object Headed Toward Earth 2012 PDF Print E-mail

Some ancient cultures referred to them as “the Menace of the Universe” and “the Harbinger of Doom.” Comets have almost universally been viewed by the ancients as messengers or omens carrying bad news from the gods.In the midst of our busy lives it’s difficult to keep in mind that we reside on a ball that’s corkscrewing through space around a ball of gas called our sun, which is also sweeping through our galaxy. The ancients didn’t have distractions like TVs and the Internet. They looked to the sky for clues and guidance for life on Earth, and comets brought mythology of angry gods and instilled fear in them. Strangely, in more modern times, comets have been associated with actual dark events.

25 years of research turned on its head

NASA explores the 'edge' of our solar system for first time through the orbiting Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX) probes from the two Voyager aircrafts. The new discovery is that our Solar system is travelling more slowly than thought.

Our solar system is flying through space more slowly than we thought - and Nasa's IBEX - Interstellar Boundary Explorer - has found it doesn't have a 'bow shock', an area of gas or plasma that shields our solar system as it hurtles though space, says the Dailymail.

The IBEX spacecraft has revealed a 'missing' boundary at the edge of our solar system. Our solar system doesn't move quickly enough to generate a 'bow shock' - the galactic equivalent of a 'sonic boom.'

For a long time scientists thought that the heliosphere moved through the interstellar medium at a speed fast enough to form a bow shock. But the new discovery showed otherwise.

Supermoon Saturday: Why it's the biggest, brightest of 2012 PDF Print E-mail

Super Perigee Moon May 2012

The biggest and brightest full moon of the year arrives Saturday night as our celestial neighbor passes closer to Earth than usual.

Saturday's event is a "supermoon," the closest and therefore the biggest and brightest full moon of the year. At 11:34 p.m., the moon will be about 221,802 miles from Earth. That's about 15,300 miles closer than average.

The moon will appear 14% larger than other full moons of 2012.  "The swollen orb rising in the East at sunset will seem super indeed."

This doesn't sound like a super moon -- it sounds like a super duper moon.

Anthony Cook, astronomical observer at L.A.'s Griffith Observatory, says the Moon will be 30% brighter, but that's 30% brighter than the moon is when it is at "apogee" -- the farthest point in its elliptical orbit around the Earth -- he said.

Observant moon watchers could recognize its beauty and the best time to do this is when the moon is close to the horizon.  The "horizon illusion" makes the moon appear bigger, Cook said, "because you're comparing it to more familiar things."

Kill Shot Solar Flare Approaching: CIA Secret Program Predicted PDF Print E-mail

UPDATE July 2012 NASA: There is a coronal mass ejection (CME) associated with the July 12 X-class flare. Rough estimates based on the data currently available -- namely observations from STEREO-B (the Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory) -- show that the CME is traveling in an Earth direction at over 850 miles per second.

A solar storm is racing toward Earth this weekend. The blast of charged solar particles was due to arrive the morning of July 14 and shake Earth's magnetic field. Space weather forecasters say it will be a minor event and they don't expect disruptions to power grids or communications systems. The flare erupted from a region which rotated into view on July 6, 2012.

The Kill Shot Solar Storm

A documentary explaining the secret CIA research program that predicted a solar flare for 2012-2013 will soon bring the end to life on earth as we know it.

The KillShot has been mostly labeled as conspiracy, but the CIA program has accurately predicted events in the past and the federal government has invested $20 million into it as part of the Stargate Project.

As Coupmedia reported last year, NASA Issued a Super Solar Storm Warning forecasted for 2012-2013 that could kill 1 billion people while this program has been making the same prediction for at least a decade.

Massive Asteroids Hitting Earth

Asteroid 2011 AG5 – also known as Apophis - registers as 1 on the Torino scale, meaning it 'merits careful monitoring', say scientists.

According to NASA this asteroid is 460 feet across, and is relatively smaller than the one believed to have exterminated the dinosaurs.

That's the concern some distressed scientists have as recent study of near-Earth objects has confirmed that asteroid 011 AG5 has a high possibility of striking Earth a deadly blow in 2040. Read more on Asteroid 2011 AG5 May Pose Threat to Earth in 2040

Asteroid YU55

An asteroid the size of an aircraft carrier whistled past Earth at a distance of 202,000 miles away – slightly nearer than the moon last November.

It was the largest such object to come so close in 35 years but the experts at Nasa remained relaxed, ruling out any chance of impact with the space rock known as 2005 YU55.

NASA has been monitoring the quarter-mile-wide asteroid as it approached Earth, analyzing radar images to uncover further details about the rock, which was first spotted in 2005 by the University of Arizona.

Its surface is coal black and it spins slowly through space. It travels at 30,000mph and was last this close to Earth some 200 years ago.
